So I decided to post a short #PitchWars mentee bio on the off chance that someone does choose to mentor me. *fingers crossed*
I’ve always loved reading. My first love is (and remains) YA, but I also adore NA and adult novels. My tastes lean more towards contemporary romance, and that’s why I decided to start writing in that genre. Although I have to say I LOVE HARRY POTTER! Those books are definitely my all-time favorite series. I’m a Ravenclaw, or if we’re doing hybrid houses since not even Harry Potter fit into just one house according to the sorting hat, I’d be a Slytherclaw. I was pretty much obsessed with Draco Malfoy (my first bad boy crush), and I wrote fanfiction stories for several years to play out the stories and fantasies in my head that didn’t happen in the books.
In addition to contemporary romance, I also like magical/fantasy/paranormal books and some classics (Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, etc.). A few of my favorite authors are: Sarah Dessen, Meg Cabot, Jodi Picoult, Jill Mansell, and J.K. Rowling.
Some random facts about me:
- English was my favorite subject in school (history was a close second).
- Pizza is my favorite food.
- I love singing, especially in the car.
- I also adore baking. Why does dessert have to be so bad for you?
I wrote my first novel when I was eighteen. I took a break from writing novels for several years because college and work took up a lot of my free time. But I finally got back to writing and started my second novel during the 2014 NaNoWriMo competition. I ended up writing over 50,000 words that month. Although both my books so far are YA contemporary romances, I hope to branch out into other genres like fantasy, paranormal, dystopian, and perhaps even try my hand at NA and adult novels eventually.
I got my Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, majoring in English – Creative Writing with a Business Administration minor. I’m an administrative assistant at a manufacturing company during the day to pay the bills and I write at night. I’ve dreamt of being a published author for so many years, and now I’m pushing myself to make my dream come true.
I started this blog a few weeks ago because I love reading and I thought it would be a great idea to do a book blog. The book community is amazing, and I love the connections I’m making so far.
I will make my own author website soon, so when I do finally get published, I’ll be ready to interact with my amazing readers.
Thanks for reading my mentee bio and let me know if you have any other questions. Even if I’m not picked as a mentee this year, I’m grateful for all the mentors that volunteered their time. I’m excited to keep making more connections with all the amazing writers, editors, agents, publishers, etc. in the writing world. And if I’m not picked this time around, there’s always next year!
