Waiting on Wednesday [57]

Before I get to the meme, I just want to point out that this is my 300th post on this blog!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to this point between the reading slumps, the blog break, etc. Thank you for sticking with me, and inspiring me to keep blogging! xoxo

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly awaiting.

There are so many books I’m excited about, so I’ll definitely keep doing Waiting on Wednesday. With that said, here’s my pick that I can’t wait for.

Title: Forest of a Thousand Lanterns
Author: Julie C. Dao
Publisher: Philomel Books
Publication date: October 10, 2017
Summary (via Goodreads):  An East Asian fantasy reimagining of The Evil Queen legend about one peasant girl’s quest to become Empress–and the darkness she must unleash to achieve her destiny.

Eighteen-year-old Xifeng is beautiful. The stars say she is destined for greatness, that she is meant to be Empress of Feng Lu. But only if she embraces the darkness within her. Growing up as a peasant in a forgotten village on the edge of the map, Xifeng longs to fulfill the destiny promised to her by her cruel aunt, the witch Guma, who has read the cards and seen glimmers of Xifeng’s majestic future. But is the price of the throne too high?

Because in order to achieve greatness, she must spurn the young man who loves her and exploit the callous magic that runs through her veins–sorcery fueled by eating the hearts of the recently killed. For the god who has sent her on this journey will not be satisfied until his power is absolute.

Why I Chose This Book:

This book has gotten a lot of praise, so I’m definitely excited to get my hands on a copy. I pre-ordered it and got a beautiful fan as a gift. I haven’t read that many reimaginings/retellings, so I’m trying to make them more of a priority on my TBR. The summary sounds awesome, so I can’t wait!

    1. Thanks! Ooooh nice! I’m not sure when I’m reading it, but I did pre-order it. Maybe before the end of the year. I’ll have to see what mood I’m in when it arrives.
