Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Futuristic Settings

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week there’s a new topic for a top ten list.

This week’s topic is Top Ten Historical Settings You Love/Ten Historical Settings You’d Love To See or Top Futuristic Books You Love/Ten Futuristic Societies I’d Love To Read in Books. Honestly, I haven’t read a ton of futuristic, or historical, YA novels, so I’m going to list the ones I love, and then list ones I want to read very soon. The focus of this post will be on futuristic societies, even though I do love historical books as well. Maybe I’ll do that post for the next freebie week! All of these books are part of a completed, or continuing, series. I just listed the first book for each series.

The Hunger Games  Cinder  The Selection  Divergent  Breathe

1. The Hunger Games  I absolutely love this series. It’s been a while since I read the books (I read them after the first movie came out on DVD), so I think it’s time for a re-read soon.

2. Cinder  Another fantastic series. I read the first 3 books (and novella) in 2015, and I can’t wait to finish the series with Winter. Hopefully I’ll get around to that book this month!

3. The Selection – I love the Bachelor, so a book that combines that type of competition plus a dystopian world is amazing. The series is pretty cute. The first three books are the best in my opinion, because I don’t really like Eadlyn.

4. Divergent – The first two books were pretty good, and the third book sucked in my opinion. I hate how the series ended.

5. Breathe – This duology was interesting and entertaining. It’s a little reminiscent of some dystopian features from The Selection, Divergent, and The Hunger Games.

Forget Tomorrow  Illuminae  The Winner's Curse  Shatter Me  The 5th Wave

6. Forget Tomorrow – I received an eARC from Netgalley of this book, and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

7. Illuminae – A lot of people have told me to read this book, so I’m hoping to read it soon.

8. The Winner’s Curse – I’ve heard great things about these books, so I’d love to read the trilogy.

9. Shatter Me – This is another series I’ve wanted to read for a while. I’m going to read it for one of my A Series A Month picks.

10. The 5th Wave – The movie previews look pretty good, so I’d like to read the books as well.

Some other books I’d like to read eventually (please note: sorry in advance if all of these books aren’t futuristic! I picked books based on a dystopian genre): These Broken Stars, Free to Fall, Under the Never Sky, Delirium, The Darkest Minds, The Program, The Kiss of Deception, This Savage Song, Incarnate, The Maze Runner, Perfected, Zodiac, An Ember in the Ashes, Tracked, Court of Fives, Red Rising, Legend, The Young Elites, The 100, The Queen of the Tearling, Matched, etc.

Have you read any of the futuristic books listed here? If so, what’d you think of them? Any others good ones you’d suggest?

  1. Awesome list! I highly highly recommend The Winner’s Kiss. I cannot get enough of that series. I’m in the middle of the 5th wave, and I highly recommend the audiobook if you like those. If you want a dystopian recommendation, I like Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Its a cool take on anti-heroes!

    1. Thanks! I think I’ll have to read the whole The Winner’s Kiss series once the last book comes out. I’m newer to audiobooks, but I like listening to them at work, or on road trips, so I’m still “reading”, so I’ll definitely have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendation! I just added it to my TBR list on Goodreads 🙂
